The NJTLC Program is a ten (10) month program that is designed to use multiple formats for professional learning and growth, which include:
- Instructional Class Sessions
- Scheduled small group sessions (Inquiry Groups) and performance-based tasks under the guidance of an assigned “E-Mentor”
- School-Based Teacher Leader Internship, clinical experiences and performance tasks under the guidance of an assigned school-based “SB-Mentor”
- Team Leadership Seminars for teacher leader candidates and their mentors on specific topics to support school-based clinical experiences, performance tasks and projects; and
- Performance-based assessments aligned with Teacher Leader Model Standards. (TLMS)
The multiple format program design is used to encourage broad-based dialogue and use of a variety of media and instructional techniques to focus on a wide range of topics, issues and activities relevant to the teacher leader training, including:
- Action research
- Case studies
- Clinical experiences
- Individual and group problem solving and planning
- Sharing and discussing performance tasks and findings
- Individual and group reflection
- Peer mentoring/coaching
- Diagnostic/prescriptive teaching techniques
- Data analysis and school improvement planning
